Information and solutions for specific amazon errors:
Amazon encourages people to use GS1 barcodes rather than third party barcodes. This is a recommendation, not yet a requirement. GS1 barcodes can be expensive as they typically require both annual and membership fees. Barcodes from The International Barcode Network may therefore be more suitable for your products. Our barcodes will work for you unless:
- You re using Amazon’s EDI system (if you don’t know what this is, you likely aren’t using it)
- You sell your product using the Amazon Brand Registry
- You bundle name-brand items that have one or more National Brands
- You must have your company name listed in the GS1 database. (Purchasing barcodes from International Barcodes does not give access to GS1 membership.)
Product Labelling: Putting a barcode image on your product packaging
It is advisable to list your product on Amazon before printing or adding a barcode to your product packaging to prevent any potential issues during the listing process. This step can save you time and money in case you encounter any problems when trying to list your product on Amazon.
Amazon Errors and solutions
When utilising barcodes from a third-party, i.e. companies other than GS1, as an Amazon seller, you may encounter specific error codes attributed to Amazon’s barcode policies that concentrate on steering sellers toward utilizing only GS1 barcodes.
Below is a list of common errors, explanations of why you’re seeing them and how to fix them. International Barcodes is committed to providing quick and accurate support to our customers. If these solutions do not solve your problem, please contact us.
Amazon Error Code: 5665
This error code appears to be random, but is likely the result of an algorithm we don’t currently know about. The most successful solution to date, as reported by other Amazon sellers, is to simply enter “N/A”, “N/” or “TBA” as the brand name. Sellers have also reported being able to change the brand name after the product is listed.
NOTE: You must change both the Brand and Manufacturer fields quickly or errors will continue to occur. To solve this particular problem, you will need to keep closing the error codes and entering the information until the errors stop.
Amazon Error Code: 5461-1
This error code appears when Amazon checks the GS1 GEPIR database for your UPC code/product brand or manufacturer information. If you are attempting to list a product using a Brand Name that is already listed in Amazon’s Brand Registry Program (ABRP), this error message will pop up. The simplest solution to this is for you to modify the brand name you are using. I.E. Use alternate spelling, “N/A”, “TBA” “my brand” or something similar.
NOTE: You must change both the Brand and Manufacturer Fields quickly, otherwise errors will continue popping up. In order to solve this specific issue, you must continuously close the error codes and enter the information until the errors cease.
Amazon Error Code: 5461-2
This error code may appear when attempting to sell a product with a “big brand name” that is NOT actually listed in the ABRP. Because it is a “big brand name”, Amazon has at some point entered it into some sort of database to prevent others from selling under that name. To fix this error code, you need to change the name in the same way as you did to get past the previous error code (5461-1).
NOTE: You must change both the Brand and Manufacturer Fields quickly, otherwise errors will continue popping up. In order to solve this specific issue, you must continuously close the error codes and enter the information until the errors cease.
